Tidus Shimizu's Illustrations

Name of Artwork: Garden Before Your Heart
A story about reaching into someone's heart, but before that, you will need to go through the beautiful garden of roses and radiant light. Are the roses what you see is the heart? Or is the heart after the garden?

Inspired by the famous artists Monet, after visiting 'Monet's Garden' at the Melbourne Art Museum.

Name: Dreamland
Medium: Watercolour
Inspired by a childhood novel 'Where the wild thing's are'. Back as a kid, you dream about fairy's, spiders, monsters, kings and queen - All within our our mind and imagination when we had our eyes closed.  Once we grow older, these radiant memories become fragments of darkness that looms within our memories. Something that some grown up's would never be able to imagine... but once upon a time, that radiance of imagination was within us all...

Name of Artwork: Dark Icon

Medium: Acrylic on Canvas and ball point pen

Childhood iconic comic’s has become an legend in our mind, and it’s legacy of fame has been loss in history. Time is truly a fascinating concept, as it was like yesterday that we see the fame of such iconic figure. Remember the thin comic’s that you use to read in primary school (Casper, MAD magazines etc), they now become a vintage. And yet, they were so common. Will these iconic figures we loved so much become extinct as time goes by?

The vibrant colour enhances the art of ‘Pop Culture’, yet with a hint of darkness surrounding the theme. Like our mind and how we remember history, eventually the darkness grows only darker and darker. Memories fade away, along with our perception of early childhood. Let us not be affected by time, and remember those years that has ticked away as though it was yesterday. Remember those smiles upon your faces when you see these iconic pop culture figures?

Let not time remove these feelings and clog with darkness, and embrace your inner childhood memories. Live it. May this Pop Art allow you to close your eyes and remember yesterday, and don’t let it fade away like everything else.

Name of Artwork: Music That We See
The vibrant colours takes you to a different dimensions where we see the sound, as the music project colors to your eyes.

The moment we were born, our life is pre-determined. We live a life that's not our own. Do we cut the strings? Art is an expression, how do you express? it Maybe life itself is an artform.

Industry Standard Printers

Chromira

The requirements for a 20” x 30” print on a Chromira requires a 24 bit RGB file and use ZBE’s patented Resolution Enhancement Technology to improve the original graphic’s resolution of 300 PPI to 425 PPI. To enable printing, Chromira requires a compatible computer that is connected to the network. In addition, the Chromira is able to print unattended, unless it requires the materials to be reloaded, otherwise, it does not require an operator when printing. This is because Chromira printers are controlled by the lab’s workstations.

Pegasus

In order for the Pegasus printer to print a 20” x 30” image, the digital file must be in a RBG MAC TIF format at 250 dpi (uncompressed). JPEG is also acceptable, but does not reach its best result. The file size for a Pegasus print of 20” x 30” is around 114.5mb.Quark and illustrator files can also be printed, but must be converted to a TIF file beforehand.

Lambda

To print a 20” x 30” from a Lambda printer, the file needs to be in a TIFF (RGB and Grayscale) or JPEG (RGB and Greyscale) format. The Lambda works when digital data is exposed directly to the photographic material. The speed of this process proceeds up to 65cm per minute with either 200 or 400 PPI that is equal to a seemingly clear resolution of 4000 DPI.

Key Photography Knowledge

White balance

The process of removing unrealistic colour casts in order for objects to appear white in person and rendered white in photos taken. It is a function on DSLR cameras in which people set to receive the most accurate colour on their image. People use tungsten white balance for this when shooting indoors, especially under incandescent light, such as bulb lighting. If photographing outdoors with tungsten light, a cool hue applies to the image captured in which the colours are not accurate, therefore, the white balance needs to be changed to receive the most accurate colour. In contrast, Daylight white balance is used under direct sunlight, so that it captures the correct colour in natural light.

Duratrans (short for Durable Transparency/ Backlit Transparencies)

A transparent material designed to be lit from behind, adding real depth and life to images and graphics printed on them. They are regarded as the benchmark in the graphics industry for its process, backlit graphic media and its translucent quality. Duratrans imagery print out in high quality, creating a clearer and sharper imagergy compared to digital prints. This appeals to every aspect of the retail industry. They are commonly used as ‘blue/green screens’ to create backgrounds that appear in movies or behind news presenters. They are also used as displays and signage for retail, education, advertisement and information purposes.

Mega-pixel

A unit of measurement which represents one million pixels-those tiny dots of colour which make up an image.” [Casey, 2011]. The more pixels within the image taken by a digital camera, the higher the image resolution is. The “resolution relates primarily to print size and the amount of detail an image has when viewed on a computer monitor at 100%.” [Bjork, 2014]. The greater amount of mega pixels allows for a more refined image that results in a higher image replicate.

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)

A format for compressing images. It is often used on digital camera memory cards to compress 5% of the original data size. Once compressed, it loses few amounts of the original quality, which means, once it is compressed and saved, its original quality cannot be retrieved. Furthermore, this compression technique is designed to transfer small files without the need for full recoverability, which creates convenience.

Compact flash card

A memory card used to store mass amounts of data to transfer the data onto portable electronic devices. It uses flash memory to mainly store pictures in digital cameras and portable music players.

Difference between Display print and display transparencies

The difference between display print and display transparencies is the material the visual information is printed on. Display prints are printed onto materials that are not translucent and cannot see through it. Some materials include canvases and regular photographic paper. Display transparencies, on the other hand, are often printed onto film, so that light will be able to pass through the transparent material to give the image a more three-dimensional look.
